This weekend, a new movie star, Borat, will go up against an old movie star, Santa Clause. And despite the popular and critical excitement over the former, it is the latter who will triumph. It's not exactly a fair race since Santa Clause 3 is opening on over 3,000 screens while Borat is opening on just 800. Not to mention the fact that one brings gifts and Christmastime cheer, while the other brings sophisticated satire. Come to think of it, this isn't really much of a race at all. Other mediocre films will come in ahead of Borat as well. But they will last a weekend. Borat will live forever.
